When four-time Olympian Leslie Mills opened his first gym in Auckland, New Zealand in 1968, the idea of everyday cross-training was almost exclusively associated with military boot camps and professional athletes. Decades later Les Mills ascended as a global fitness leader by innovating the industry with BODYPUMP and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) in the 90s.

WHO IS LES MILLS?

Leslie Roy Mills represented New Zealand at the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games over two decades, competing in the shot put and discus throw. Although his first gym in 1968 focused on building cardio stamina and strength training, it was Mills’ son, Phillip, who brought the brand to where it is today. In 1990 he changed the game entirely by introducing weights to an aerobic-style instructor led class and created BODYPUMP, one of the brand’s most popular workout classes today.

From strength training classes to anxiety-alleviating meditative sessions, the expertise of the family business has greatly expanded over the years. These days Les Mills offers everything from yoga to cycling, dance to martial arts, high-intensity interval training to stretching. And every three months, the virtual fitness classes are refreshed with new music and moves to ensure their instructors stay ahead of the game.

Les Mills instructors intentionally choose the music for every class to inspire and motivate. When it comes to high-intensity, speed training, and cardio, you could consider music the body’s organ that helps energize and propel your performance. HOW DO LES MILLS VIRTUAL FITNESS CLASSES WORK?

It’s easy. There is no schedule—you can take any class, any time, on demand! Classes refresh and rotate out quarterly, so you’ll be able to switch up your routine, work more muscles in different ways – which is what cross fitness and health is about! Just download the EōS Fitness app and create an account. You’ll just need your EōS Fitness barcode to get started. Les Mills virtual classes are available only with the EōS Black Membership. BODYPUMP™

A high-impact program that works all the major muscles. This full-body barbell workout will burn calories, shape and tone your entire body, increase core strength and improve bone health. 

Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, and aerobic movements, BODYPUMP™ gives you a total-body workout and can help you burn up to 540 calories. You’ll finish the session feeling challenged, motivated, and ready to come back for more.

Instructors will coach you through the scientifically-backed moves and techniques, pumping out encouragement, motivation and great music – helping you achieve much more than on your own. BODYPUMP™ is available in 55, 45 or 30-minute formats on the EōS Fitness app.

BODYCOMBAT™

The fiercely energetic, total-body workout, BODYCOMBAT™ was designed to develop coordination and release stress. You’ll work every muscle group and have a blast while torching calories as you punch, kick, block, and strike during this rigorous cardio workout. In this high-energy class, you’ll get fast, and strong, using non-contact martial arts-inspired exercises to fuel cardio fitness and train the whole body as you burn up to 570 calories in a session. BODYCOMBAT™ will teach you moves from Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Muay Thai, Capoeira, and Kung Fu. 

You can adjust a BODYCOMBAT™ workout to suit any level of fitness. Les Mills instructors always show options to modify or to challenge. BODYCOMBAT™ is available in 30 and 60-minute formats.

LES MILLS GRIT™ SERIES

The LES MILLS GRIT™ series is scientifically designed to shift your fitness to the next level. Each 30-minute session leads you through short, intense bursts of effort followed by periods of recovery. Basically, you’ll go as hard as you can for a short period of time, rest, and then repeat. This virtual fitness class offers high-intensity interval training to help you increase aerobic stamina, unleash fast-twitch muscle fibers, and grow lean muscle tissue, burning fat. It’s the intervals that allow you to keep pushing into your max effort training zone to get results. 

LES MILLS GRIT™ leverages high-intensity interval training to:

  • Rapidly improve strength and cardiovascular fitness
  • Increase lean muscle
  • Provide “afterburn” – when the body burns calories for hours after your workout
  • Torch fat: According to LES MILLS, high-intensity interval training burns 9% more fat and overall, 17% more effective than your standard aerobic or “steady state” training

LES MILLS GRIT Strength is designed to improve strength, cardiovascular fitness and build lean muscle. This strength-training workout uses barbell, weight plate, and bodyweight exercises to blast all major muscle groups. LES MILLS GRIT™ Strength takes HIIT and combines it with powerful music and inspirational coaches who will be down on the floor with you, motivating you to go harder to get fit, fast.

LES MILLS GRIT Athletic is a sports conditioning workout, designed to make you perform like an athlete. This total-body workout often uses a step, bodyweight exercises, and multi-dimensional sports conditioning training to increase your overall athletic performance: strength, agility, speed, and power.

LES MILLS GRIT™ Cardio improves cardiovascular fitness, increases speed, and maximizes calorie burn. The total-body workout uses a variety of bodyweight exercises and provides the challenge and intensity you need to get results fast. You can expect to level up your limit with all the HIIT techniques, and high-energy vibes all LES MILLS GRIT™ classes offer. 

BODYBALANCE™

Ideal for anyone and everyone, this new generation yoga focuses on flexibility, strength, and stability with yoga-based techniques. You can expect to bend and stretch through a series of simple yoga moves, elements of Tai Chi, and Pilates with an inspiring soundtrack playing all the way through. You’ll get centered, condition the body, build core strength, and clear the mind.

Breathing control is a part of all the BODYBALANCE™ exercises, and instructors will always provide options for yoga beginners. Controlled breathing, concentration, and stretches makes BODYBALANCE™ a useful recovery solution to tack on to your weekly fitness program. LES MILLS MINDFULNESS™ 

Recognizing the impact of mindfulness on our physical and mental health, this virtual fitness class series is full of guided meditations developed to help increase concentration and reduce anxiety. Simple in essence and scientific in nature, these new guided meditations help you learn to pause and observe the highly active nature of the mind. 

With time and practice, you will begin to slow the steady stream of thoughts and reach a state of stillness, spaciousness, and greater clarity.
